Route into the industry
The most common entry level position into the cable industry is a Trainee Rigger role. In order to become successful in a Trainee Rigger position you must be willing to learn, enthusiastic and have a positive approach to all aspects of work. Importantly you must also hold the relevant certification in order to work offshore; a current offshore survival certificate (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training - BOSIET), a valid medical certificate and an entry level 1 Rigger certificate (OPITO approved).
Another entry level position for those who have a Mechanical or Electrical background is a Trainee Cable Engine Driver/Tension Operator position. You must again hold valid certification to work offshore (BOSIET and medical certificate), but also have successfully completed electrical or mechanical qualifications (City and Guilds or equivalent).
